Bing offers taxi fare’s
By: Deena Nissley
Bing Maps is adding a Taxi Fare search. Just like a map search, you can plug in 2 address and find the fare of the taxi. The app determines the cost of the cab by factoring best routes and publicly available rates. The initial cost is displayed and the distance estimated waiting times as well.
Plug in your location and destination — just like on Google Maps — and the app determines how much a cab will cost, by factoring best routes and publicly available rates.
Bing Maps requires Silverlight (another add-on, like Flash), so anyone not on a Mac or PC is SOL.
Other cool selections from the King of Bing Maps include a roadside attraction finder and a gas price list, making for a crucial roadtrip tool.
Here’s an example: bing taxi fare

West Nile Virus Mosquitos Found in Encino
I recently found this alarming news in the LA Times
:
By: Michelle Tepper
Mosquitoes collected in Encino have tested positive for West Nile virus, county officials said. The mosquitoes are the first this year to test positive for the potentially deadly disease in the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District. Two dead birds were collected in. the district earlier this year. Because the disease is transmitted from birds to humans through a mosquito bite, officials advised residents to use insect repellent while outdoors, and wear protective clothing from dusk to dawn, when mosquitoes are most active. Residents were also asked to eliminate stagnant pools of water, where mosquitoes often breed. Overwatering your lawn at night and leaving bowls of water outside for pets, kiddie pools and bird baths can also breed mosquitos at night.

Furnish your Oakpointe Home with a Robot
Robots that clean
By: Deena Nissley
Quite possibly the best gift for a college student, Roboscooper will lift beer cans, magazines and any other medium weight items. While Roomba scurries around sucking up dirt off your carpet, Roboscooper uses his hands to lift stuff out of the way. The robot runs on six AAA batteries which means it can’t pick up heavy items but it does have an infrared sensor to detect if the object is too big.
Like the Star Wars duo, they’ll be able to work in tandem when Roboscooper lands on Earth (it ships in a few weeks).

Al Jolson’s Encino Home
Encino Celebrity home for sale
By: Joan Duffy
The man who was dubbed as the first openly Jewish man in Hollywood once lived at 4875 Louise Ave Encino. Jolson moved to Encino from New York to allegedly become a gentleman farmer raising cows, chickens, walnuts, and oranges. Jolson was married to Ruby Keeler at the time and they soon adopted a baby boy. They began remodeling and soon turned the five-acre plot of land into a place where Jolson could rehearse for movies and musicals.
It wasn’t long before Jolson’s career flopped and his marriage failed. For several years, however, Jolson served as honorary mayor of Encino and President of its Chamber of Commerce. He remarried, and lived in his Louise street home until his death in 1950. Since then, it’s changed hands many times. Charlie Sheen’s trust bought from Katey Sagal, who bought it from Kirstie Alley in 1997.
This legendary property is currently listed at $6,950,000. To view more photos on the property, check out the property video below:

On Garde Summer Traveling, Now Luggage-Free
Travel without your luggage
By: Deena Nissley
Here is a novel idea: travel without the hassle of hustling your baggage. What if your luggage was waiting for you at your next vacation spot?
Here to help is an esteemed wardrobe butler called Garde Robe. Give them a ring and the contents of your closet are no longer confined to your closet. They’ll come to you, take anything you could ever need (wedding tux, winter sweaters, designer werewolf costume) and store them in a high-security loft. When it’s close to trip time, login in to your online closest and check out all your photographed items. Check off the need items and they’ll ship whatever you need to wherever you’re going.
When the trip is over, they’ll make the arrangements for everything to be sent back to storage, cleaned up and ready for next time.
And Garde Robe could come in handy even if you’re not planning any trips—like if you just want to free up some closet space for a few summer wardrobe additions.

Chisholm Estates
Chisholm Estates is a group of approximately 200 homes…

By: Tim McLaughlin
In Van Nuys situated in the heart of the San Fernando valley. It’s located north of Van Owen, south of Sherman Way, and west of Sepulveda to the 405 freeway. A large number of the homes in the neighborhood were built between 1948-1950, by James Chisholm who originally named his development Chisholm Woods. Chisholm homes have been known for their oversized lots, good craftsmanship and are perfect examples of California ranch homes. The neighborhood was a walnut grove during the turn of the 20th century and some of the walnut trees are still there today. When they were originally built the homes sold for between $22,000-$25,000 and today they sell for between $500,000 and $600,000.
